Artists Visit The Custard Factory

22 November 2007

Ten of our Gifted and Talented art pupils in Year 5 were lucky enough to spend the morning with Irish artist Brendan Deary.

First, they went to the Custard Factory in Digbeth where Brendan was eagerly awaiting their arrival. After being introduced to Brendan, he gave them a guided tour of a gallery of some of his prints. The prints depicted the life story of Michael Davitt, a famous Irish man and Brendan's hero!

After looking at the story of the prints, Brendan showed our pupils how he creates the images and then invited them to have a go at recreating one of his prints using polystyrene printing cards, rollers and inks. The pupils all worked enthusiastically and created some wonderful images. All the pupils enjoyed working alongside a real artist and learnt some valuable lessons.

It was a fantastic opportunity for all involved. We especially would like to thank the Irish Forum for arranging the visit and Mrs Shakespeare for organising us!
