First Holy Communion

17 June 2017

'Come to the feast of heaven and earth, come to the table of plenty.'

On Saturday 17th June 2017, Year 3 celebrated their First Holy Communion. The children had prepared to receive this sacrament since the start of the year.

The girls in their white dresses and the boys in their crisp white shirts processed into Church holding their lit Baptismal Candles. A sign of purity and Christ the Light of the World. The children all fully participated in the celebration of this special Mass. The Word of the Lord was proclaimed with grace and authority and the singing truly sounded like the voices of angels.

When the time came to receive Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion each child went to the altar steps and received this sacrament with great reverence and dignity. They were supported by other members of our school community who helped with the singing and some children enhanced the music by playing their flutes.

"It was amazing, I was fed by Christ's holy body; my faith took me a step nearer to God."

"I felt raised in Spirit and in my soul."

We pray that God will continue to guide the children and as Father John said, "May this be the first of many times that you receive this most precious sacrament."
