Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. Luke 22:19-20
On Sunday 10th June 2018, Year 3 celebrated their First Holy Communion. The children had prepared well to receive this sacrament since the start of the year.
The girls in their white dresses and the boys in their crisp white shirts processed into Church holding their lit Baptismal Candles. A sign of purity and Christ the Light of the World.
The children all fully participated in the celebration of this special Mass. The Word of the Lord was proclaimed with grace and authority and the singing truly sounded like the voices of angels.
When the time came to receive Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion each child went to the altar steps and received this sacrament with great reverence and dignity. They were supported by other members of our school community who helped with the singing.
After Holy Communion the children sang a moving rendition of ‘Remember Me’ by Dan Callow and Jo Boyce. We pray that God will continue to guide the children and as Father John said, "may this be the first of many times that you receive this most precious sacrament."
