‘Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.’ Psalm 150
St Thomas More School proudly presented the musical talents of our amazing young people, on Tuesday 10th July 2018.
Our annual Shine Concert is a celebration of vocal and instrumental excellence that have been nurtured throughout the year, supported by Sister Susan and the Music Services.
The pupils have captivated their audience with their renditions movie theme tunes, ‘Shine Jesus and Shine’, ‘Mary had a little lamb’ and ‘Beethoven Boogie’, to name but a few.
At St Thomas More, we are incredibly blessed with incredibly talented musicians. Today’s spectacular musical ensemble included young people from across the school, including recorder players supported by Mrs Mullen, some of whom have only been playing for 8 months. The spectacular vocal talents of our choir, led by Sister Susan, opened the performance, they sang some of their favourite songs beautifully.
Many other children, who have received tutoring were able to perform recitals playing flutes, clarinets, guitars, violas and violins. Some of our pupils were able to receive music certificates from the Royal School of Music during the concert, these were presented to the children by Sister Susan.
Year 4 pupils, who began the year learning the fife, and progressed to the flute, were able to display their musical flare and talents. We thank Sister Susan for all of her encouragement and support; Sister’s additional support has helped the flautists play so beautifully in Mass during the year.
The wind section of our ensemble, were able to come together to deliver a spectacular rendition of ‘We want to see Jesus lifted high’, the acoustics were sensational.
It was a wonderful celebration, which the children and parents of St Thomas More thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to everyone involved, we especially thank families and friends for your continuing support and to the Music Services for all that they do.
