Pupils in Year 5 had a fabulous day out at Handsworth Fire Station, which was provided with the support of Sheldon Fire Brigade.
Pupils took part in a range of activities designed to improve their awareness and knowledge of what to do in the event of a fire.
They had the opportunity to think about what to do if a fire started at home and were encouraged to think about fire escape plans. After discussing whether they would return to a burning house to save a pet they had the chance to see first hand the consequences of the wrong decision.
After lunch, they found out how to escape from a burning house by using the back of their hands to feel their way around a darkened room with obstacles in their path.
A very worthwhile and potentially life saving day out.
