End of Year of Mercy Mass

18 November 2016

Jesus you are:

Merciful like the Heavenly Father,
Earth born to show us how to live.
Reaching out to those who seek you.
Constant source of strength.
You are the visible face of the invisible father.

Jubilee Years are usually celebrated every 25 years. The last Jubilee Year was in 2000. However, sometimes the Pope declares a special Jubilee Year. This year's Jubilee of Mercy is one of these special years.

This Jubilee Year began on December 8th 2015 and ends on November 20th 2016. As the Year of Mercy draws to a close, we celebrate the joys that this year has brought to us in our Mass. This very special Mass was lead by Year 5. Abigail, from Year 6 helped to introduce the Mass with a representative from each class bringing forward gifts that have helped us to understand the corporal and spiritual acts of mercy. We have thanked Jesus for this special time.

The first reading was taken from Isaiah 30:15-20, this told us that we must trust God, if we do this we will be saved, if we are calm and trust in God we will be strong. The second reading was from Philippians 4:6-9. This has shown us that we never need to feel anxious or worried about anything. In every situation in life, we need to pray and thank God as he will guard us always. The Gospel was taken from John 20:19-23, this explained that Jesus came and stood among the disciples and said to them 'Peace be with you,' before showing them His hands and His side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Pope Francis chose mercy as this year's theme. He chose mercy because he believes that there is not enough mercy in the world. In Year 4 we have decided that if people act with more mercy, the world would be a better place. So, we have promised that we will show kindness, compassion and love to everyone that we meet.
