May Procession

19 May 2016

The Angel Gabriel came to Mary and said, "Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you." Luke 1:28

Preparations for our May Procession started the week before when the children painted a picture of Our Lady in different shrines around the world.

On Wednesday 18th May the Reception children prepared beautiful flower arrangements that would be used to decorate the school hall the next day and then be carried by them in procession to the church.

Prayerfully, everyone assembled together in our school hall waiting for our annual May Procession to begin.

Father John offered a few words of welcome and one of our Year 6 girls read our Opening Prayer. We listened to the story of the Annunciation from St Luke's Gospel, which was read and acted out by Year 6 children and then we all sang Mary's song of praise, the "Magnificat."

Father John and the altar servers led our procession with last year's First Holy Communion Children in their communion outfits at the front of the procession. Children from Year 6 carried a statue of Mary from our Prayer Garden before going into the Church.

During the procession we carried pictures of Our Lady at different shrines, sang hymns to Mary and prayed the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. Reception children carried their special paintings of Mary and some beautiful flowers. We stopped to say the third mystery of the Rosary in our Prayer Garden.

As we arrived in church our Reception children placed their flowers and paintings of Mary around the altar. Year 6 children led our prayers in honour of Mary in Church.

We sang the Hail Mary at the end of our prayers. One of the girls had the honour of placing a crown of flowers onto Mary's head which had been carefully carried during the procession. Our celebration in honour of Mary our Mother finished with Benediction and the singing of the Lourdes Hymn.

We were very happy to be joined by a very good number of family members and parishioners who walked and prayed with us.
