25 to 29 June 2012
During the 2012 National 'Olympic Week' here at St Thomas More, we had a full programme of exciting events. Ranging from our own Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Olympic Sports morning to a whole school Marathon in the afternoon and two great Opening and Closing Ceremonies!
During our Olympic morning, each class represented a country and carried their flags onto the playground in a grand ceremony lead by our own school 'band' and our brilliant torch bearer Georgia. Georgia was chosen because of her spirit of taking part in sporting events whilst having a wonderful 'goodwill' attitude.
Key Stage 1 took part in many different Olympic themed races and everyone took part in the Olympic Spirit of the Games.
Key Stage 2 had some really exciting events including javelin, relay races and hurdles. Many parents attended the morning of celebration and cheered the children on.
Our Local Police were also involved in to our Closing Ceremony, where the winning countries received specially produced Olympic medal and certificates. Individual medals were awarded to many different participants, from Marathon winners to flag bearers.
Rose our cook, arranged a whole week of special dinners from the Countries which took part in the London 2012 Olympics.
We will certainly remember this amazing event of 2012!
