St Thomas More Remembers

8 to 12 November 2016

'Creator of all the living we entrust to your gentle care all those we love who have gone before us.'

In the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday Special Remembrance Prayer Cards were made by all the children to pray for those men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. Miss Ryan led a Remembrance Card Making Workshop for KS2 children on the 8th November 2016.

The cards that the children made were sold to support the Poppy Appeal. We raised £717.63 for the Poppy Appeal Collection organised by Jake a Year 6 pupil.

On the 11th of November at 11.00am the Year 6 children from the Catholic Life Group led a Prayer Service they had written for the whole school community which included the two minute silence.

The children led the readings, prayers and the singing at a special Mass in Church on Saturday 12th November 2016. Many of our families came to pray with us.

'We come together today to remember the men and women who died in the wars so we can live in peace. We ask God to show us how we can spread peace in our own country, in our school, in our homes, and in ourselves'.

Children from Year 2 also wrote some very moving 'Thank you' letters to the injured personnel. We also sent special packages to the Military Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre and the Star and Garter Nursing Home.
