St Thomas More Remembers

3 and 11 November 2015

'Creator of all the living we entrust to your gentle care all those we love who have gone before us.'

In the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday Special Remembrance Prayer Cards were made by all the children to pray for those men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. Miss Ryan led a Remembrance Card Making Workshop for KS2 children on the 3rd November 2015. The cards that the children made were sold to support the Poppy Appeal and half of the cards were given to the Church Piety Stall where they were sold and the money went into Parish Funds.

The children led the readings, prayers and the singing at a special Mass in Church on Saturday 7th November 2015. Many of our families came to pray with us.

'We come together today to remember the men and women who died in the wars so we can live in peace. We ask God to show us how we can spread peace in our own country, in our school, in our homes, and in ourselves'.

On the 11th of November at 11.00am the Year 6 children from the Catholic Life Group led a Prayer Service they had written for the whole school community which included the two minute silence. Children from Year 2 also wrote some very moving 'Thank you' letters to the injured personnel. We also sent special packages to the Military Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre and the Star and Garter Nursing Home.

We raised £343.21 for the Poppy Appeal Collection.
