Year 5 pupils had a wonderful opportunity to work with actors from the Church Mission Society to prepare a drama about slavery, to perform in Birmingham Cathedral - marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.
Pupils took part in a one day workshop in school. They talked about why slavery happened in the past and the slavery that still occurs today, before rehearsing different acts that made up the show.
On the day of the performance the pupils spent the afternoon rehearsing in Birmingham cathedral before performing in the evening to family, friends and the public.
This was a wonderful opportunity to really understand the issues surrounding the slave trade - children were motivated to learn through drama, song and dance. Their final production was very dramatic and had a real impact on the audience. Well done to all those who took part and prepared this thought provoking experience.
