Year 4 Prayer Service for Armed Forces Day

28th June 2018

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you
wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9

On Saturday 30th June 2018, we will celebrate Armed Forces Day. The children from Year 4 have shown their support by gathering together today to share our thoughts and prayers for the military.

To help us learn more about Armed Forces Day, we have carried out research using the internet, this has helped us to find out more about our Armed Forces and help us to fully appreciate all of the tremendous work these very courageous people do all around the world. Our Prayer Service helps us to show our support and to say thank you for that is done for us both here and abroad.

We believe that people in the Armed Forces are being attentive to the vocational calling from God to serve others. They follow God, discerning right from wrong and standing up for freedom and democracy. Along with the Crucifix and candles, our Prayer Focus contained poppies for remembrance; prayers to keep the military safe; a Bible from the RAF; a veterans medal; military medals; spurs from World War 1; words that we believe characterise military men and women and images for Armed Forces Day.

Every child wrote a prayer, shared their thoughts and feelings or acted out the Story of David and Goliath. With Sister Susan accompanying us, everyone sang ‘Be Bold, Be Brave’ although there were other hymns that we could have chosen, we thought that this shows that God is always with us no matter what.

This prayer service has helped us to truly appreciate the work that is done to keep us safe. Thank you to the families who came, we greatly appreciate your support. Thank to the children who have shown their dedication to their faith by putting together this prayer service.

We ask God to bless all of our Armed Forces and keep them in his loving care always. Amen.
