“A shoot shall come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Isaiah 11:1:
With great excitement, our preparations for the Advent Season have begun.
During our RE lessons, pupils in Year 4 have been gaining a deeper understanding of the ancestors of Jesus; Abraham, Jacob, Isaac and Joseph appear to have been favourites. Through our Inspire Workshop, which we have shared with family and friends, we have been able to show how Learned and Wise we are because sharing our learning and doing something with it shows how wise we are.
The introduction to our workshop was lead by some of the pupils from our Mini Vinnies group and others in Year 4. We opened with a beautiful prayer written by the children, thanking God for all of the wonderful gifts that we have in our lives, especially thanking God for bringing us all together on this special day. During the introduction the children shared their understanding of the Jesse Tree and how it symbolises that Jesse was the father of King David.
Then the work began. Instruction were given as to how the tree was to be constructed and off we all went.
After assembling the branches, they were secured into the main base. We made ornaments to hang from the Jesse Tree, these represent the people, prophesies, and events leading up to the birth of Jesus. Each ornament tells the story of God in the Old Testament, connecting the Advent season with the faithfulness of God across many generations of Jesus’ ancestors.
Our wonderful workshop ended with a closing prayer. Then came the big clean up, it’s amazing how much glitter we found everywhere.
Thank you to everyone who came and made our day so very special.
