This special retreat day was set up for us by Mr Morgan and Brother Andrew – from John Henry Newman College at the request of our Year 6 Catholic Life Group. We enjoyed a morning at John Henry Newman on the 20th May to help plan the day and sample some of the activities.
We awaited a lovely day ahead of us; we focused on the parable of the Prodigal Son – unconditional love. Firstly, we gathered in the school hall for our Opening Liturgy which included a dance by the students from the college telling us the story of the Prodigal Son. While we were in the hall Mr Morgan told us about the activities we would be doing during the day. This included: Dance, Art, Drama and Music.
We all went off into our classes, into different rooms. Year 6N started with dance in the hall where we worked with some of the students from John Henry Newman and their dance teacher. Year 6M went into the studio to also enjoy doing dance with some other students. The whole of Key Stage 2 enjoyed dance and drama; everyone enjoyed the end of day assembly where each class told a different part of the story.
Our day was very special, exquisite and reverent for us. It was a wonderful day with John Henry Newman. We were taught different activities and how we can be like Jesus, showing unconditional love. We were inspired by the students from John Henry Newman who shared their talents with us. It was a great day and we hope that we can do it again next year.
We already have some ideas for the next retreat day which we will pass on before we move on to our new schools.
