PE Intent
The Physical Education Curriculum at Saint Thomas More inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physical activities with confidence in a way, which supports and promotes their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in a safe and stimulating environment help to build characters and embed values such as fairness and respect.
What is Sports Premium?
The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide new and substantial primary
school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Department of Education, Health and
Culture, Media and Sport, and see money going directly to Primary School Head Teachers to spend on
improving the quality of Sport and PE for all their children. Each school will receive £8,000 plus an
extra £5 per pupil each year for the next two years to be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of Funding
Schools will, have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will
have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses of the funding
At St Thomas More the governors agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit
regardless of their sporting ability. We will use our Sports Funding Allocation to continue to place a very
high priority on our PE provision. We have invested in full time Specialist Teacher provision.
